INAUGURAL INTER-HOUSE REGATTA A HUGE SUCCESS

The first ever Shalom College Inter-House Rowing Regatta got off to a shaky start when it was initially postponed due to the prospect of some very wild weather. The decision to postpone turned out to be a good one with thunderstorms and heavy rain across the region during the morning.
When the Regatta finally got under way the following weekend on Saturday September 22, it promised to be a day of perfect weather for rowing, and it certainly was. Brilliant sunshine and a mild cooling breeze kept everybody's spirits high.
While some of our rowers struggled to come to grips with the ad hoc nature of the day, eventually everybody relaxed and enjoyed the Regatta. The races that involved parents and staff were the most interesting, but not necessarily because of the high skill level. It was great to see plenty of students and parents dress in their House colours, and there were some bizarre outfits on the day.
McKillop House were the eventual winners on the day, but the real benefit for Shalom Rowing was the number of new rowers, including parents and school staff who were able to enjoy their first Regatta in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere.
